Infected Sea

Post by Artemis on Mon Jun 12, 2017 12:10 pm

The 1600's, an era of piracy and conquered seas. At this time many ships, sailed by pirates, were scattered about the vast blue ocean. despite being classified as one, each and every pirate ship was a foe. Many countries fleets have tried to rid of this curse to the ocean, but to no avail. These fearsome ships continue to sail the broad and endless waters, conquering what they can, and destroying their enemies one by one.

Backstory- Savanna Anderson was born a blacksmiths daughter. Born and raised as one until her father was charged with selling faulty weapons, and punished with life in prison, when she was 10. Before that unfortunate event, her and her father always sailed together in their small boat in search for supplies. In those journey's she was taught how to navigate the sea and read maps. Advancing further, her father taught her how to read the stars. When he was taken away she began secretly practicing sword fight. However she never got very advanced with the techniques. At the age of 18 she began aiding traders in voyaging through the seas. When she was 20 she was sailing back to her country with a full stock of silver and silk. She was at the wheel when a ship suddenly curved out of a cove. The distinct black skull flag scarring her. She spun the wheel and turned the course, however it was to late. Grappling hooks clung to the sides of the ship and pulled them in. She was the only female on this boat, so the crew made it there job to protect her. The pirates raided the deck and took down mate after mate until the loot was gone. Bodies scattered the deck as the pirates fled past her. She abandoned the wheel and slowly stalked upon the deceased. Suddenly there was a heavy pressure around her stomach and she was in the air. Savanna began flailing around as the pirate carried her onto the ship. A loud explosion echoed through the air and gunpowder lingered in the wind. Within a moments glance, the ship she was sailing began sinking. Being taken captive she was able to make out the crew- the Blue Serpent Pirates. Savanna was tied to the Mainmast of the ship. She could hear the murmurs of the pirates. She was approached by the captain.

"You be the pilot of that there vessel, eh?" He scoffed. "A mere wench, navigating the great ocean, how preposterous! Keep this lass tied to the mast until further orders."

Three days go by as she was tied to the mast. The second day happened to have been her 21st B-day. She had received low rations in these few days. They were just enough to keep her alive though. That day the Neptune pirates invaded the ship. Many men were slaughtered before her eyes before they were chased off. One of the men happen to have been their pilot. The captain approached her hours after they buried their men at sea. The Neptune pirates stole their map and Savanna claimed to have known star sailing and her own map.

The captain released her and let her navigate the ship to their hideout. Once they arrived at the hideout she was taken off the ship and into the hut. They knew the curse women brought to ships, but the captain saw a great need for her expertise and intelligence in sailing. Now she has be claimed as the official pilot and is continuing her first year.

Ship- Blue Serpent
Backstory- Zayn was the son of a late famous pirate, Reed Kelsey the Tide Turner. Zayn however adopted the name of his foster parents, unknown to his biological father. When he turned 6 his town was raided by The White Storm pirates. He was made into a cabin boy. This role lasted for 4 years. The ship was invaded by The Neptune's Curse Pirates. Zayn rushed into an unseen quarter on the deck and got a hold of a fallen gun. He hid behind the mizzenmast on the quarterdeck, holding the gun in a shaky hand. He could see every battle play before his eyes. Zayn just feared for his life at the moment. He heard a familiar voice and turned to see his fellow cabin boy-his best friend upon this wrecked ship, with a long crimson blade sticking out his back. A small knife dropping from his little hand. The sword was removed from the torso of his friend and the limp body collapsed on the deck. The Neptune Pirate who had slain his friend grinned and went to move onto another battle. Zayn stepped out from behind the mizzen mast and cocked the pistol, took aim, and fired. The bullet struck the right side of the pirates back- right on a kidney. The pirate fell to the ground. holding his side and couching up blood. The Neptune pirates began to flee the ship minutes after the man Zayn shot had stopped moving. Suddenly, everything was quiet. The captain of the ship slowly approached Zayn. He quickly hid the gun behind his back. The captain grabbed his elbow roughly and yanked his arm up. Zayn dropped the gun as he crushed his wrist.

"Ye scuttled this pirate lad?" The captain motioned towards the body Zayn had indeed shot, his thick accent making a hard translation. He nodded. "Ye see this lads! A simple cabin lad was able t' shoot down t' Neptune Captain but ye scurvy scums couldn't even land a blade upon his flesh." He shoved Zayn to the floor. "Congratulation lad, ye've been ranked t' a gunner now. Aye throw th' bodies o'er board." He stomped away with his walking stick. He stopped and knelled down at the Neptune captains body and picked up the hat. He tucked it under his arm and took the sword. He glanced at Zayn before tossing the blade at him. It skidded across the floor and slid against his boots. Zayn picked up the blade and smiled. He was a pirate.

By the time he was 20, Zayn was a Boatswain. He had gained a liking from the captains and continued to advance further in the ranking. At the age of 25 he became a Quartermaster and a year later a first mate.

He was 28 when turmoil began. British fleets began chasing their ship and in a timely chase, they were surrounded. Zayn commanded the gunners and fired his own cannon. Every cannon was aimed into the sky. Careful calculations allowed for Zayn's plan to carry out. The cannons launched. The cannonballs reached their velocity and began there descent right onto the deck of the British ships. Hours later, the British fleet had fled the scene with only 2 ships remained out of the 8. Their ship faced there own damages as well. In their victory, only Zayn noticed the absence of their captain. He searched the deck and soon found the captain bleeding in his quarters. Someone of their crew had attacked him. Zayn rushed to a surgeon and they tried to save the captain. It was too late. The news wasn't shared for hours. He was searching for the culprit. Night fell and he watched from the crows nest for anyone trying to escape or send messages. One came- no three. A group of three were quietly scrabbling to lower a life boat. Zayn cocked his gun and shot the leg of the middle member. Within seconds apart, every member had a leg shot and they were on the ground. Zayn swung down from a rope, landing in front of the three wounded men. Crew mates began leaving their bunkers to view the commotion.

"You lads murdered our captain during the battle. You know what the punishment is for raising a gun aboard the ship." He cocked the gun and raised it to the head of one. He turned the gun to the side and fired, leaving a hole in the railings. The men trembled in fear. " Tie these lads up
and send them a drift. No supplies. May they perish in the storm." He stated and gazed at the horizon. Fluffy black clouds were moving in.

The three traitors were tied and gagged, set into a lifeboat and into the sea. They would surely drown this night. The crew moved towards the burial of their fallen captain. Zayn had him laid upon a life boat with some of his treasure and rum. They set the boat a drift. Zayn was handed a torch. He tossed it overboard and it landed on the lifeboat. Zayn held the captains hat and lowered his own, crossing it over his chest.

"There goes a worthy captain." He sighed, watching the flaming lifeboat drift away.

The night passes and it's a new dawn. Zayn leaves his quarters to find a celebrating crew. They had voted him as their new captain at wake. One member approached him, holding the hat of the fallen Neptune captain he had killed in his younger years. They had a feeling he would one day become captain and stored away his greatest prize. He happily put on the hat and became the new captain. This position has been his for 4 years and hopefully continues.

The bitter sweet scent of salt stung the air. The seas were calm, not a wave to disturb the gentle float of the ship. Standing upon the bowsprit was a relatively young pirate, holding a silver telescope to his eye. A snarky grin plastered on his lips. Upon his head was a large hat, topped with beads and a feather. He removed the scope from his eye and slid it shut. "Aye, boys! Thar be a hidden cove eastwards. Dock upon the rocks. Tonight we loot the gold!"

(Accepted. We can begin.)

The sea was steady. The Blue Serpent ship slowly crept into a hidden cove, steered by the only female, Savanna Anderson. She has been upon this ship for a year now, and the crew was a true terror. Crew mates bet against each other in stupid dares for silver or gold, getting drunk nearly each night and hosting an unnecessary celebration. The captain Zayn proved to be a tough and great leader through these tough trials. Cancelling them every night and on occasion banning drinking and bets.

Savanna smoothly pulled the ship near a strip of rocks. "Drop the anchor!" Men shouted. Chains began rattling at the heavy hook anchor fell. "The ship is secure, Captain!" Savanna called to the blonde over looking the poop deck.

Zayn slowly spun around on his heels and approached the main deck. He stopped at the railings above the main deck and scanned the area in one swift motion.

"All righty lads. Ye all know your positions in th' heist." The boat sounded with a rain of cheers, signalling their understanding. "Drop th' boats!" He ordered and stalked down the stairs to the quarter deck. The captain approached Savanna, a hand resting on his sword handle. "Aye, Savvy, you watch over the ship while we are out. 20 mates are left in case an ambush surfaces. We be back at dusk, the ship best be able by then."

"Aye sir." She nodded. She watched the captain step onto a lifeboat. It dropped into the water right away and they paddled to shore. Aye stuck a board the ship again. Great. She leaned up against the wheel with a sigh and watched the crew join on the shore.

Re: Infected Sea

Post by Desmeon on Wed Jun 14, 2017 2:47 pm

The day was a fine one; clouds dotted the clear light blue sky and the sea waves soothingly washed upon the shore. Various ships were docked at the piers, slowly bobbing up and down as the waves gently pushed past them. The bustling small coastal town remained kept up in its daily routine. People tended to their ships, shops, and homes. They chatted, vexed, or courted each other, and such was the way this town thrived. Many a person visited or took a pitstop here due to the convenience of it. The shops made coin like no other, ship captains usually bought their wares for their next journey out to sea or to prove their wealth to their rivals. This town was also a fine place to recruit crew members, many here had desired to leave the town and find a new life out at sea. Most were lucky although the others succumbed to the life of a drunkard or a dead man.

Cyrille was grateful she'd never live like those poor men. She was an assassin after all, always on the move. The only reason she had been in the town was to pick up intel on her target, and of which, she had just missed him. He was a wealthy ship captain who was notorious for backstabbing his crew, not literally. They'd raid treasure from foes or islands, even villages. But when the raiding was over, they'd sail to another destination, and in the meantime, he'd throw men overboard. Those men tended to be the clever ones, the ones that would fight to get their fair share.

Cyrille was more than thrilled to take him down, despite the fact that she was hired to kill him. Her leader gave her little details about the man, she had to find the rest. Which she found to be quite simple. She had already gathered most of the information, but now she needed to know his schedule, where'd he'd strike next. And to do so, she'd have to take a ship to the next coastal town...Which proved to be difficult. She had no ship to sail and no captain in town would allow her to board their ship. They were pure idiots if you asked her. She tried bribing them already with gold or herself, none would take the bait.

So here she stood leaning against a post on the docks, waiting. Honestly, she didn't understand why she didn't steal a ship or threaten to kill the captain. Well, maybe she had a clue as to why... All the ship captains she had come across were intimidating, large even. They had one helluva crew at their backs and there was no way she could take them all down. She was weak. Even with her training, her body would stay frail and she could never become strong. Cyrille always wondered why her leader decided for her to live amongst them. There was no way she could ever become a successful assassin like he was.

From this thought, she even wondered if she could kill her target. She did have her wits about her, she could easily kill him while he was sleeping...Yet first, she'd have to find him. And nor could she fear what was in store for her, but that could go with anything as well, like with setting sail. Why did she fear pirates now of all times? Did she finally fear for her life once more? That couldn't be...No. Dammit. Her conflicting thoughts these days did a number on her, and she couldn't let it continue.

Cyrille turned her gaze away from the wooden boards at her feet. She noticed a new ship that arrived from the sea. It had docked not at the pier but, near the end of the cove. Pulling her hood to cover more of her face, she let a smirk appear. Smaller boats were let down into the sea with pirates aboard them, and they rowed their way to the small town. She'd "borrow" one of those boats and take it back to the ship. What better timing than this? It was perfect. She could finally carry on with her mission.

Re: Infected Sea

Post by Artemis on Wed Jun 14, 2017 3:38 pm

The boats scrapped against the shoreline. Men hopped out, water and sand splashing from the sudden impact. They hauled the boats on to the sandy beach. Kelp floated on the surface of the water, moving with the waves and catching on the pirates ankles. The captain jumped out of the finally boat to hit shore. He stalked forward, the loose kelp caching on his ankles with every step. His feet sunk into the mud, restricting his fast walk. Pirates hauled the final boat into the sand bar. The loyal crew turned to face their captain, who stood out of the waves reach- kelp still caught on his boots.

Zayn kicked his boots forward, the wrenched sea plant flying in to the sharp rocks. "The men who stepped on land first, stand guard by the boats in case men attempt to stowaway." Ten men stepped forward with a salute and separated from the crowd. Roughly fifteen crew members remained. "Aye the rest follow me." He waved his cutlass, the blade sheathed securely in its saber.

He lead his crew over the ragged rocks, towards the dense foliage. Logs were hidden by moss and tall grass, tripping members. The crew never slowed for the clumsy. Bugs fluttered in their faces with every step, most being bloodsuckers- hands not enough to slap the pesky insects away. The low tree branches and hanging vines were the most challenging obstacle towards the town. Men nearly choked upon the vines and most were hit by branches moved aside for others. Zayn stopped at the end of the forest and pulled a piece of wrinkled old paper from his pocket. He unfolded the map carefully and read through the buildings.

"We be 6 blocks from th' bank." He whispered and shoved the map into the chest of crew mate. "Th' bank is on the edge, but surrounded by few shops." His gaze swept over the crew. "You four come with me. Abandon your pirate attire." He order. Zayn pulled his jacket off his shoulders and passed it onto a stray member. His gun, eye patch, pendulum, bracelets, strap belt, and hat followed after. "Don't dare lose or damage my belongings." He threatened the members holding his equipment. Zayn was now left in a white tunic with a purple sash tied around the stomach, his black pants, boots and necklace. His crew members nearly looked the same, most younger than him as to not impose a threatening vibe. "Be surrounding the bank by dusk... obtain some horses for the loot."

The group of five walked through the tall grass towards the silent gravel road. They walked towards the town as if they were newcomers to the town, when in truth this would be the second looting of this town. However that raid was seven years ago, before Zayn became captain.

Re: Infected Sea

Post by Desmeon on Wed Jun 14, 2017 5:59 pm

From her post on the dock, Cyrille carefully eyed the pirates as they hit the shore and hurried their way to town. She noticed that one man stood out among the rest, and she considered him to be the captain. He appeared quite handsome although really tall and perhaps older...There was no way she could take him on, not now anyway. Looking back at the boats, there were a few pirates left behind, most likely to prevent others from taking them. She knew that her only option was to kill them or make 'em unconscious. Either worked fine for her. She had a few tricks up her sleeve to take them out.

As she waited for the rest of the pirates to disappear from sight, Cyrille figured it was best to dispose of the pirates sooner rather than later. Who knew when the others would return. With the sun still showing brightly in the sky, she stepped away from her post and gazed at the men from afar. She hoped things would go smoothly...

She jumped into the sand from the dock and flung out her daggers, twirling them in her hands. She approached the men without being "stealthy" about it. In a scenario like this, she wanted to see what she was capable of rather than cheating her way to the boats. The pirates had, of course, seen her by now and they tensed up, preparing for an attack. They shouted a few words of intimidation but she ignored it, continuing her way to them until she was a few paces away.

Halting in her tracks, the men growled her way and one stepped up to fight her. The man rushed at her with his fists in the air, just as she predicted. She nimbly dodged him and forced a deep cut in his arm with her poisoned dagger. Blood came pooling out and she was sure he winced, but he turned to face her again. Luckily for her, this poison was a special case, it was quick to immobilize him. He fell to his knees and clenched his teeth while letting out whimpers.

The other men glared at her, readying themselves. She did the same. She snatched up her throwing daggers, and wasting no time, she hurled them at the eyes of two men. Both were a success. They screeched in agony, clutching their eyes. Three men circled her and lunged with swords in hand. Cyrille crouched and rolled to the side just in time, making the men stab each other instead. Blood was splattered in their vicinity, and it was sure the sight to see. The four remaining men were cautious this time around. They gripped their swords and cursed at her, threateningly approaching her. She took as many steps back as they had steps toward her. As they were about to strike her, she jumped to the side and dashed behind them. It took them a moment to realize what was happening, but she was already at their backs, stabbing two of them with poisoned daggers. The other two turned around in time to have two swords she seized pointed at their faces.

Cyrille spoke in a deep tone, demanding their drop their weapons. They had refused to do so. With all her might, she thrust both of the swords to their corresponding target. Blood squirted from their faces onto her. Disgust spread across her face, letting the two men fall to the sand. Turning away from them, she took in her surroundings. It surprisingly went well despite her fear from earlier. Maybe that's what pushed her into doing such a thing like this though. Glancing down at her own clothing, she frowned. How unappealing. Perhaps she'd take a short break to wash off the blood.

Re: Infected Sea

Post by Artemis on Wed Jun 14, 2017 8:08 pm

Suddenly there was silence. Savanna did not hear the bickering and ridiculous arguments of the onshore men. She was rested up against the wooden steering wheel when she noticed the echoes of talk replaced with shouts. The men on the deck seemed oblivious to the sudden peace as they played with cards and teased the ship dog with raw meat. They were to distracted to even hear her calls to them. Taking matters into her own hands, she traveled down the stairs to the main deck and retrieved the telescope from a distracted card player. It slid open with a metallic clink as she approached the side. Raising the small scope to her eye, she peered out into the distance.

The first thing she saw was the red soaked sand. At first she though it was a dual challenge and that the nearest fallen was the loser. However as her head slowly turned she got a better insight on the scene. Lying in the sand were the corpses of her crew mates. Savanna was terrified. What beast could have caused a massacre like this? The captain had to be warned. Before she could put the telescope away, a silhouette was caught in the corner of the glass. She moved the telescope back to her left. There sat a girl, resting in the waves. Red washed into the waters from her body, fading into the blue.

Immediately after that moment, Savanna slammed the telescope down in the palm of her hand and turned to face the crew. She didn't want to believe it, but the scene was true. Her hand ached to grab a hold of her "emergency" gun and fire at the person, but that reckless action would draw attention to the pirate ship and blow their cover. Instead she kept a hold of the telescope and placed a hand on her hip. She let out a worried sigh and glanced back at her crew. If she told them they'd most likely freak out at their slaughtered members and cause a ruckus. If that happened, she knew Zayn would be pissed if her had to abandon their heist. Savanna returned to her position at the wheel, watching the shoreline carefully. If the person did arrive at the boat, they wouldn't standing a chance against 21 well trained fighters... well 20 mostly. Savanna only knew how to fire a gun. She knew nothing else about combat- she could learn anything, intelligence was her only strength.

Over the edge of the quarter deck, the other crew mates still sat their, oblivious to the tragic fate of their fellow comrades. At least the captain was still alive. If he wasn't the crew- no Savanna would be at a lost, possibly through over board for being a female. After all old legends say that women aboard a military-or even a pirate ship was a curse. Savanna laid her head on the felloe with a groan as these tragic thoughts haunted her mind. All the young blonde lass could do was hope that this strange assassin girl would not come for their ship.

After a few grueling minutes spent viciously trying to wash out the blood on her clothing, Cyrille, now soaking wet, stepped back onto the dry sand, taking a glance at the boats. It was time to get moving...But she knew she couldn't push the boats into the water herself. She shifted her gaze among the pirate bodies and recalled that she hadn't actually killed them all. The two men she threw her daggers at should have still been alive if they hadn't bled out completely yet.

She found them a few paces to her right, behind one man's large body. Nonchalantly, Cyrille made her way beside them and observed them. One appeared breathing, but it seemed as if he was unconscious. Pulling her hood back over her eyes, she then began kicking the man in his side. "Avast ye, scurvy dog! I'll feed ye to th'fishes if ye don't get er' up t'is instant!" She purposely added an accent to her voice and used pirate tongue to convince the man to stand. It half-worked, but she didn't expect him to actually rise up from the ground.

At first, he looked confused, though not a second later he scowled at her. Blood still leaked from his tattered eye and the dagger used on him was in the bloodied sand. Without allowing him to gather his thoughts any further, she swung out a much longer dagger from her coat and held it to his throat. She didn't bother with the accent this time. "I'll kill ye 'ere on the spot if ye don't push that boat there back into the waters." She nudged her head a little to indicate which boat she desired. He took a glance at it before looking at her once more. It seemed as if he realized the gravity of the situation since he gave a small nod and backed away. He shoved the boat into the shallow water, holding it from floating off. Cyrille still menacingly held her dagger toward him as she hopped into the boat. "Oi, get yer hiney in th'boat an' start paddling. Bring me to yer ship. Now."
